People come to a big night out at Manchester greyhounds for the fun, laughter, good food and drink and the thrill of the race. Some like to add a little spice by shouting for ‘their’ dog, so if you fancy a flutter, but you’re not quite sure how it all works, read this.
Even if you’re not going to bet, read this anyway, you can always use your knowledge to comment on others’ betting choices!
Here’s how:
Our friendly TOTE attendants are out and about around the stadium and they’ll explain the process and types of bets to you. TOTE betting booths are located all around the track and if you're eating in the restaurant or the executive suites your TOTE attendant will come to you to take your bets and return your winnings. Don’t forget, there are friendly bookmakers trackside who are also happy to help.
Win: Pick the winner of the race – minimum stake £2
Place: Pick a greyhound to come 1st or 2nd – minimum stake £2
Forecast: Pick two greyhounds to come 1st and 2nd in the correct order – minimum stake £1
Combination Forecast: Pick two greyhounds to come 1st and 2nd in any order – minimum stake £2 (counts as two bets)
Trio: Pick three greyhounds to come 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the correct order – minimum stake 50p
Trio Always: Pick three greyhounds to come 1st, 2nd and 3rd in any order – minimum stake £3 (counts as six bets)
Jackpot: Pick the six winners of the ‘Pick Six Jackpot’ races featured in the night’s racecard and you could win a minimum of £1,000 with a winning ticket. Just give your TOTE attendant the six dogs you’ve picked. They’ll give you a ticket with your selections – then follow the Jackpot as the night progresses.
If you fancy a Jackpot bet but want to trust your luck to random selection, opt for a Lucky Dip Jackpot ticket and the TOTE system will pick six greyhounds for you. The minimum stake is £1 (you can add extra selections for extra stakes, but not after the start of the first Jackpot race).
Note: It is illegal for under 18s to bet. It is also illegal for anyone to place or attempt to place a bet for anyone under the age of 18. Our TOTE attendants have been instructed not to take bets if they believe the bet to be for a minor. If you would like some hints or tips please look at the footnotes in your racecard on the night. Some simply choose a name they like, colour or trap number of the dog.
Betting can be enjoyable and will add to the fun and excitement of your evening but please remember to bet sensibly. If you are worried about your relationship with betting, you can visit www.gamcare.com
